Reborn as the Only Daughter in the 1970s Chapter 2

Sun Hongying, the second daughter-in-law standing behind her, heard this and hypocritically advised, "Mother, Yu Yue is still young. She might be a bit playful. You can teach her properly later."

Hearing his mother speak like this, Yu Mingkang's face was filled with helplessness. He knew without thinking that Grandmother would be even angrier after hearing these words. He quickly pulled Old Lady Yu away, all the while repeatedly signaling to Yu Yue with his eyes, telling her not to speak.

"Grandma, Yu Yue has just woken up. What are you doing? She's finally awake, let her rest a bit more!"

Yu Yue looked at these people, and her mind automatically matched each person's identity.

Yu Haiyang, the eldest son of her second uncle's family, was also standing aside. However, this cousin's relationship with her was ordinary, so he stood to the side without speaking.

After matching everyone's identities, Yu Yue spoke up: "I'm my father's only daughter. You're still hoping for me to die so my father's line will end? Is my father not your own son?"

The others gasped. Goodness! As expected of someone who had hit her head, she was even more daring to talk back than before.

Hearing these words, Old Lady Yu's blood instantly rushed to her head. She pointed at Yu Yue and cursed loudly, "You ungrateful thing! What kind of talk is this? Today I'm going to beat you to death, you heartless creature!" She looked around the room but couldn't find a broom, so she raised her hand, intending to strangle Yu Yue.

Yu Yue darted around the room, her mouth not giving an inch: "I was pushed to the ground, got such a big gash, and not only did no one in the family come to demand an explanation, but as soon as I wake up, I'm cursed and beaten. What kind of birth family treats someone like this? I might as well go to the main gate and ask around, see if it's my father who isn't the real child, or if it's me!"

Yu Yue said this without fear, even though in the original owner's memories, it seemed that everyone in the family had wronged her.

But from an outsider's perspective, in the 1970s, a girl like the original Yu Yue who had never worked in the fields, never done housework, and had studied as much as possible, was truly rare.

Her poor relationship with her family was partly due to her extreme thoughts and hostility towards them.

Spending money on Yu Yue's medical treatment didn't sit well with Old Lady Yu, which is why when she saw Yu Yue wake up, her first reaction was to point and scold her instead of showing concern.

Hearing Yu Yue's words, everyone furrowed their brows.

Old Lady Yu no longer thought about hitting her and stared intently at Yu Yue, asking, "What do you mean by that? Don't try to trick me, speak up quickly!"

Just as Yu Yue was about to speak, someone rushed in from the doorway and embraced her, crying tears of joy: "Yu Yue! You're finally awake. If you hadn't woken up, mom wouldn't have been able to go on living!"

Gao Fang hugged her daughter and cried her heart out, gasping for breath. The egg tea she was holding in her right hand spilled a bit due to her intense emotions.

"What are you wailing about! She's not dead and you're already carrying on like this? You'll drive away all the good fortune! You're really a bringer of bad luck!"

Seeing Gao Fang like this, Old Lady Yu became furious. The child wasn't dead, yet she was crying as if she had lost her child. How inauspicious!

Hearing Old Lady Yu's words, Gao Fang forcibly held back her tears. Only then did she notice that some of the egg tea in the bowl had spilled. Heartbroken, she quickly offered it to Yu Yue: "Yu Yue, you've just woken up. Drink some of this to nourish your body."

"What nourishment! I see she's as fit as can be, still having the strength to stand here and anger me!" Old Lady Yu glared, causing Gao Fang's hand holding the bowl to tremble involuntarily.

"Sister-in-law, it's not that we don't want to give Yu Yue food, but it's the busy farming season right now, and we need to save these eggs for the laborers in the family. Your husband isn't home to work, and you don't know how worn out my Haiyang and Mingkang are. If we don't nourish them properly, won't their health collapse? Our whole family depends on these few workers for food and drink..."

Sun Hongying stood to the side, adding with a troubled expression, implying in her words that Gao Fang was wrong to give Yu Yue eggs.

Gao Fang's face turned pale, and she kept nervously tugging at the hem of her top, looking lost: "But... but Yu Yue just lost so much blood, she... she needs to recover too. Don't worry, I'll work harder, I absolutely won't be a burden to the family."

"You say you won't be a burden and that makes it so? You talk a better game than you can deliver. Giving my third son more children is what really matters!"

Old Lady Yu couldn't stand the sight of Gao Fang talking like this. She looked so cowardly and pathetic, completely useless. If it weren't for the lack of options back then, she would never have let her third son marry such a creature.

Yu Yue couldn't bear to listen anymore. For so many years, Old Lady Yu and her second aunt had constantly made snide remarks at Gao Fang, always using childbearing to pressure her, forcing Gao Fang to work like an ox for this family.

"If I remember correctly, my father works at the bearing factory and brings back most of his salary to Grandma every month. If a man can't even support his own wife and child, I think he should quit his job and come home to farm!"

Her father brought back most of his salary every month, yet they complained about her eating an egg, implying that her family didn't contribute to the household. Hadn't her mother worked hard to earn work points? Hadn't her father contributed money?

Hearing this, Old Lady Yu's face turned green, and Sun Hongying's expression also changed.

"Haha, you're joking, child. Your words are really sharp," Sun Hongying said awkwardly.

Yu Haiyang frowned at Yu Yue, looking impatient. This cousin had always been sharp-tongued and didn't know her place.

Yu Mingkang, sensing the tense atmosphere, quickly changed the subject: "Yu Yue, you mentioned earlier that someone pushed you to the ground? Who pushed you? How vicious! They pushed you down and ran away. If it weren't for Young Zhang finding you and carrying you all the way to the health center, even finding someone to inform us on the way, you might have..."

Perhaps feeling that the latter half of his words were inappropriate, Yu Mingkang quickly stopped himself.

These words successfully drew everyone's attention, and they all looked at Yu Yue.

Yu Yue seized the opportunity and explained the situation: "It was Zhang Xiuqin's mother. She sees that my father is doing well now and our life is getting better, so she constantly incites Zhang Xiuqin to give me trouble."

"I thought she wanted to talk to me about something important, but it turned out she was just jealous and scolded me. She even said grandmother was prejudiced against the poor and favored the rich, that she had originally disapproved of her mother's family for being poor, which was why she broke up her mother and my father. She went on and on about all sorts of nonsense. I got angry and talked back, and then she tried to push me into the river! You know what happened after that."

Yu Yue selectively embellished the story with exaggerations. Putting aside whether her father's search for someone was true or not, if Old Lady Yu were to find out about it, she would likely applaud the idea, let alone anything else.

What was the most pressing matter now? It was to seek revenge on that Zhang Xiuqin! This grudge must be settled, or all these years would have been lived in vain!

Not only did that girl push her down, but when she saw her bleeding, she ran away without looking back. If it weren't for her luck, she'd probably be buried by now.

After hearing Yu Yue's words, Old Lady Yu was so angry she gritted her teeth. To think someone would gossip about her behind her back! If others heard about this, wouldn't it be disastrous? Wouldn't people say her ideological awareness was low?!
